Trike-a-thon 2009

In April, Savannah participated in the St Jude Trike-a-Thon at her school. The kids did several laps around the parking lot to raise money for St. Jude's Children Research Hospital in Memphis. She had so much fun! I know I am late posting the pics, but here are some. (There are not many because my camera batteries died)

Ian's hospital stay..

Friday morning Ian woke up and seemed drowsy. I put Melatonin in Savannah's milk at night to help her sleep, so I thought maybe he had drank some of it and would be a little sleepy because of it. I went ahead and took the kids to daycare. I had forgotten Caroline's bottles so I needed to go back and get them and said I would check on him again when I got back. (He had walked into daycare, so even they thought he was OK).

Well, before I could make the 5 minute drive back he was not able to stand up anymore. They got some juice down him, but for the most part he was non-responsive unless touched. When I got there he was the same way. I would have to tap his face to get his eyes to open. Then he opened them and said "Mommy" and just clamped onto me. I called poison control to see if Melatonin could do that - even though I was pretty sure it could not. I was right - it could not. I then took him to the closest ER which is Parkwest (where Caroline was born). It took 6 tries to get an IV in him. The neo-natal nurse was the one that was finally able to do it. (She was Caroline's nurse in the hospital). All my poor little baby said through all of this was "ouch". That shows how sick he was. They do not admit children to Parkwest, so Ian got to take his first (and hopefully final) ambulance ride! They sent him to Children's Hospital and he was admitted there.

He was diagnosed with an ileus . The ileus had led to metabolic acidosis. He first got a bolus of 250cc of normal saline while they were waiting on the diagnosis. He then got a 500cc bolus of lactated ringers. After that he got 1000cc of D51/2NS with 40 meq K and 1 amp Bicarb (K= potassium). He then got the same 1000cc again, only 20 of K. He is feeling much better now. They think the ileus and part of the diarrhea may have been caused by a virus. They checked him for rota - it was not that. He also only had normal flora and no e-coli or c-diff. Whatever the virus was, it was one that they do not have a test for.

Thankfully no one else has shown signs of problems. It just goes to show how quickly things ca go bad for kids. He was FINE Thursday night - playing, eating, drinking and everything. He just got really really sick really quickly.

He was released from the hospital this morning. He has a follow up appointment on Wednesday with his primary care doctor. Right now he is downstairs playing and watching Noggin. You would never know how sick he was just a couple of days ago.

Savannah and Ian School pictures..

Here are Savannah and Ian's class pictures..(Caroline was not in school yet when they were taken)

Here are Savannah's "Senior Pictures". She will graduate Pre-K on the 21st. In the second picture is the daycare director at Nanny's. She is a very nice lady. Savannah enjoys yelling "Boo" at her every time she come in and she always pretends that Savannah scared her.

I will have pictures of the graduation ceremony after it happens. We may go to the park some this week..Savannah wants to take a series of Senior pictures like the big kids do.

Dana's Mom

We just wanted to thank everyone for all your thoughts and prayers on the passing of Dana's mom. Savannah took it better than we thought she would, although we are not sure she completely understands. We are just glad she is at peace now and not suffering from cancer anymore.
